Family Therapy

Mark Hirschfield Welcome,

I specialize in working with families in conflict and I am effective and accomplished at this work. My success as a family therapist is due to skilled training, extensive work experience, and my own life experience as a parent. When working with families I assess for each specific situation and use appropriate individualized methods and techniques. This may involve working with only a single member of the family, a combination of various members of the family, or the whole family in the therapy room together.

My personal style, is interactive, empathic, and non-judgmental and is geared toward effective problem-solving and the use of concrete, useable interventions. This approach allows for a deepening of trust and intimacy. I work with families of all sexual orientations, lifestyles and cultures.

My areas of expertise include:
  • Interpersonal relationship concerns
  • Divorce and separation
  • Co-parenting
  • Breakdown in family communication
  • Parent/child conflict
  • Child/adolescent therapy
  • Blended Families/Remarriage
  • Couples Counseling
  • Sexual difficulties

Feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any questions, or wish to make an initial appointment. If we can't work together for any reason, I will do my best to provide appropriate therapist referrals.
I am available days, evenings, and Saturdays. I accept credit cards and offer a sliding scale. I also offer telephone consultation.

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist . Originally from England, I received my BA degree in Psychology at Stanford University and my MA degree from New College in San Francisco. I have worked in the fields of individual, couple, family and group counseling, crisis prevention, child advocacy and shyness research since 1993.
